Medical debt is the most common collection item on consumer credit reports. That doesn’t include the credit card bills, payment plans and loans to pay back friends or family who helped. But because no organization or government agency tracks medical debt in total, it’s difficult to understand the scale of the problem. So John Ingold put together seven charts to help you wrap your head around it.

Denver nonprofit Urban Peak embroiled in wage dispute as it completes four-story youth homeless shelter
Denver’s Urban Peak — a nonprofit working to solve youth homelessness — has been accused of underpaying its contractors as it builds a $38 million, four-story shelter. Emails about the construction project reveal confusion and miscommunication between city departments about wage requirements. Now, the shelter may have to pay $2 million to $4 million more for the project, which means it could struggle to afford furniture and staff. Jennifer Brown has more.

Colorado business leaders are neutral about the economy — the best they’ve felt in two years
It’s not awful. But it’s not great. The good: The latest University of Colorado business survey found local business leaders feeling better about profits and sales than in mid-2022. The bad: Slow job growth and an uncertainty around the upcoming election. Tamara Chuang has more on the survey results.
