🚜⛷ Rural/economic reporter

The Colorado Sun views the economic recovery as a critical coverage area and is particularly interested in how rural areas of the state rebound from pandemic-related pressures as well as shifts from extractive industries including oil and gas development. This reporter should understand state and local government policies, and have the ability to use people-centered reporting to tell the stories of what is — or is not — working. This reporter will focus on rural parts of the state and have free range to write about agriculture and the environment, manufacturing, the oil and gas industry and tourism. We need an ambitious reporter who thrives on a diverse story list.

✍️ General assignment reporter

This job is for a person who loves the rush of covering news and is ready to pounce on the top story of the day. But it’s more than just a breaking news job. This position is considered crucial in our newsroom because it sets the stage for future reporting by The Colorado Sun.

While we don’t typically cover fatal car wrecks or deadly shootings, we do cover the trends surrounding them, so it will be necessary to build strong law enforcement and justice sources. We are aggressive and will jump on a big story when we see an opportunity to help readers better understand Colorado.
