2026 Rise & Shine Workshop

Do you have a high school student who is interested in journalism or working in media one day?

The Colorado Sun’s 6th Rise & Shine Journalism Workshop is scheduled for Oct. 12 in Centennial.

Attendees will learn from working journalists about story ideas, building relationships with sources, preparing for interviews and more.

Applications close Sept. 8, and students will be notified by Sept. 12.

This year’s program is open to 25 high school students who:

  • Reside in Colorado
  • Will be in high school in the fall
  • Have an interest in journalism

The Sun will also offer the workshop online for students who are unable to attend in person.

Students do not need to have any previous experience in journalism to take part in the workshop. The Sun encourages students from underrepresented and diverse backgrounds to apply.

We stopped watering, but now our yards are wilting. What’s next? Join The Colorado Sun’s solutions journalism discussion on water-wise landscapes and tour one of the most beautiful low-water gardens in northern Colorado.

As part of The Sun’s More with Less series, water reporter Shannon Mullane will talk to local experts about the latest in water conservation solutions for your lawn or garden. What plants are best to replace patchy brown grass? Are there more efficient water systems we can use? Join us to learn about what is, and what isn’t working with water conservation in Colorado and what you can do at your home, small business or community space.

Looking for inspiration for your own lawn or garden? See conservation strategies up close during a tour of Northern Water’s Conservation Garden. Swap notes with other gardeners while exploring native plants, irrigation systems, xeriscaping and turf alternatives. Experts will be ready to help with easy tools and tips to try at home.

This free, interactive event is a one-stop shop for anyone looking to create or level-up a water-conscious landscape.

Colorado Attorney General Candidate Debate

Join The Colorado Sun for the Colorado Attorney General Candidate Debate. The event will take place at Josef Korbel School of Global and Public Affairs at The University of Denver on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

Colorado Sun elections editor Jesse Paul will ask candidates for attorney general questions ahead of the Nov. 10 General Election. Entravision News Anchor Rafael Contreras will join him as a co-moderator.

Candidates participating in debate include:

  • Jena Griswold – Democratic candidate
  • Michael Allen – Republican candidate

The forum will be free to attend, but registration is required.
