Democrats posted historic wins Tuesday and a look at the results show the 2018 election divided Colorado.
The preliminary results, mapped by county, show a definite blue streak along the Front Range and more Democratic success than in the 2014 midterm and even the 2016 election in some places.
Democrat Jared Polis defeated Republican Walker Stapleton with 51.6 percent to 45 percent in the governor’s race, unofficial results show.
Polis won Colorado’s urban Front Range, aside from El Paso and Douglas counties. He also carried ski country, while Stapleton took the Eastern Plains and much of the Western Slope, according to a Colorado Sun analysis.
Here’s a look at the top races and the breakdown by county.

Colorado Senate races
Elsewhere, five Democratic women won their state Senate contests to give Democrats a 19-16 margin in the upper legislative chamber, completing the party’s trifecta control of the House, Senate and governor’s office.
Here’s a look at the Senate votes in the 17 districts up for election Tuesday.
Attorney general’s race
In the closest statewide contest, former University of Colorado Law School dean Phil Weiser, a Democrat, defeated GOP prosecutor George Brauchler in the contest for attorney general.
With the exception of Garfield County, the counties Weiser won mirror those Polis won.
Proposition 112
Finally, here’s a look at how counties voted on Proposition 112, the failed measure to require 2,500-foot setbacks for oil and gas development.
The measure faced heavy opposition from the oil and gas industry, but support from big-name national Democrats. It won in Denver and Boulder counties, as well as mountain communities.
