Vice President Mike Pence is visiting Colorado next week for a fundraiser — but it’s not to support the Republican ticket.

Pence is scheduled to speak at a fundraiser in Denver for America First Action, a super PAC affiliated with President Donald Trump. The lunch event is scheduled for Thursday at The Palm Restaurant downtown.

The visit comes a week after Trump endorsed Republican Walker Stapleton in the governor’s race.

But the Stapleton campaign said it did not know about Pence’s visit and the vice president is not raising money on its behalf.

Likewise, Pence is not raising money or holding any events for the Colorado Republican Party, said Daniel Cole, a state GOP spokesman.

The vice president visited the Denver area almost exactly a year ago for a state party event that initially struggled to sell tickets and lowered the price to appeal to Republican activists. At the event, he touted the Trump administration’s plan to cut taxes and stressed the importance of GOP unity. He was greeted by protesters in “Handmaid’s Tale” costumes.
