A former La Plata County jail commander faces more than 100 criminal charges after an investigation by state and local officials found he accessed the videos of 117 female inmates being strip searched and watched the videos multiple times, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said Thursday.

Edward Aber, 62, is charged with 117 counts of invasion of privacy for sexual gratification and one count of first-degree official misconduct, court records show. The charges, which were filed Tuesday, are all misdemeanors.

Aber resigned last July as officials investigated allegations that he made sexual contact with female inmates and sexually harassed numerous female employees, the CBI said. No charges were filed in the case.

Investigators believe he viewed the sensitive footage showing female inmates multiple times between Feb. 14, 2019, and Jan. 14, 2024. He gained access to the videos through evidence.com, a digital evidence management system, when he was promoted to jail commander in 2018, CBI said.

Aber is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 12. An attorney for Aber could not immediately be reached.
