Colorado Springs police Monday morning arrested a suspect in the killings of two people who were found fatally shot three days earlier in a University of Colorado Colorado Springs dorm room.

Nicholas Jordan, 25, faces two counts of first-degree murder, the department said in a post on X, formally known as Twitter.

Police found Jordan, of Detroit, inside a car just before 8 a.m. Monday about three miles from the college campus and he was taken into custody “without incident,” the department said.

Investigators had been actively searching for Jordan since issuing an arrest warrant Friday evening, police said.

“Investigative efforts continue to indicate this was an isolated incident between individuals who were known to one another and not a random attack against the school or other students at the university,” the department said in its post.

Jordan is a registered student at UCCS, a university spokesperson confirmed.

Police identified the two people killed in the Friday shooting as 24-year-old Samuel Knopp of Parker and 26-year-old Celie Rain Montgomery of Pueblo. Knopp was currently a registered student at UCCS, though Montgomery was not, CSPD said.

Police confirmed Jordan was Knopp’s roommate, but did not release any information on possible motive in the fatal shootings.

Knopp was a senior studying music and a “beloved member” of the visual and performing arts department, the university said.

Campus police found both bodies in a dorm room shortly after 6 a.m. after receiving a call about shots fired in the Crestone House, a dorm on campus.

Police are investigating both deaths as homicides and have said each person had been shot at least once. The El Paso County Coroner’s Office will determine the manner of death, pending toxicology results.

The school was placed on a brief lockdown following the shooting. Officials canceled classes and regular activities Monday and offered support services for its students and faculty.
