A 52-year-old Miami man died Thursday after a “serious incident” on an intermediate trail at Breckenridge Ski Resort.

Ski patrol found the man on the resort’s Peak 8 and brought him to a first aid room, resort spokeswoman Sara Lococo said.

After further evaluation and emergency care, the man died, Lococo said.

Summit County Coroner Amber Flenniken identified him as John Rubio.

Rubio’s cause of death is pending toxicology results, which could take up to several weeks to be completed, Flenniken said.

“Breckenridge Ski Resort, Ski Patrol and the entire Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy and support to our guest’s family and friends,” Jon Copeland, vice president and chief operating officer at Breckenridge Ski Resort, said in a statement.

Rubio was the second person to die at the resort last week. On Jan. 29, a 78-year-old man from New Hampshire died after experiencing an apparent medical issue and crashing on an intermediate run, the Summit Daily reported
