Fossilized remains are visible in the yellow-colored Wall of Bones at Dinosaur National Monument
A section of the Wall of Bones in the Carnegie Exhibit Hall at Dinosaur National Monument shows numerous dinosaur fossils. The quarry wall encompasses the original discovery of the fossil trove that defines the monument. (Dan Johnson, National Park Service)

It might seem bold to name a national monument after dinosaurs in general, but this place in far northwestern Colorado lives up to it. If it’s dinosaurs you’re after, head straight to the Quarry Exhibit Hall at the west end of the park, where more than 1,500 bones are viewable in astonishing detail from some Late Jurassic superstars, like the allosaurus and stegosaurus. (Yes, the monument saw a bump in visitorship the year “Jurassic Park” came out.) Beyond the bones are isolated and rugged canyons carved by the Green and Yampa rivers.
