The oldest son of U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert has been charged with sexual exploitation of a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor for allegedly making and sharing video footage of him having sex with a 17-year-old girl when he was 18, according to court documents.

Tyler Boebert, 21, of New Castle was arrested Sunday and released from jail on $10,000 bond later in the day, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release Monday.

Tyler Boebert was charged Thursday with three counts of sexual exploitation of a child and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor in January and February 2024, according to an affidavit for his arrest and a court document listing the charges.

No lawyer was listed as representing Tyler Boebert in the case in court records, the Garfield County court clerk’s office said.

Tyler Boebert was also arrested in 2024 when he was 18 and suspected of being part of a group of friends who used stolen credit cards at gas stations and a McDonald’s.

Lauren Boebert, a Republican, is running for reelection in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, which includes Douglas County, Loveland and the state’s rural Eastern Plains.

“I love my son.  We take these allegations very seriously and pray for everyone affected during this challenging time,” she said in a statement.

National Democrats think there’s a chance their party candidate, retired U.S. Navy rear admiral Eileen Laubacher, could beat Lauren Boebert this November and have pledged campaign guidance and messaging help. A Democrat hasn’t won the 4th District since 2008.

Lauren Boebert used to represent the 3rd Congressional District on the Western Slope. But she gave up her reelection bid there in 2023 after she was nearly defeated by former Aspen City Council member Adam Frisch the year before. The 4th District has been considered far more favorable to Republicans.
