Snowfall this season was at a 50-year low and record-high temperatures worsened conditions by melting an already emaciated snowpack, as The Colorado Sun previously reported.
It’s gotten so bad that ski resorts are closing earlier than usual, with a number of resorts set to close this weekend or already closed. Winter Park shut down Mary Jane lifts at noon Friday to preserve snow for Saturday, the official last day of the 50th season on the mountain beloved for its steep, deep mogul runs.
