The Colorado Sun was launched in 2018 in direct response to the staffing cuts made by the private equity owner of the state’s paper of record, The Denver Post.

As some Post journalists saw a third of their colleagues get laid off, they sprung into action to create a newsroom that truly served the people of Colorado, without a paywall and free of out-of-state influence that only focused on the bottom line.

Now, PBS is sharing The Sun’s story in a documentary called “Stripped for Parts: American Journalism on the Brink.” It tells viewers about how a handful of journalists rebelled against their hedge fund owner, Alden Global Capital, as it guts newspapers nationwide.
