Throughout November and December, hundreds of Colorado makers will hawk their handmade goods at holiday markets all over the state. Here’s where and when you can support local this year.
Folks, it’s here. Holiday shopping season has arrived, and hundreds of small business owners have set up their temporary stalls at dozens of makers markets around the state.
For many, the holiday rush accounts for a good chunk of their annual income — the Small Business Administration estimates that the majority of small businesses will pull in at least one-quarter of their annual income over the next few weeks.
While some artists are in it year-round, like Colorado Springs vendor Michelle Ford who sells apothecary sets at monthly Moon Markets, the holidays mean the potential to add bigger-ticket items as well as a few festive offerings. This year that’ll be “witchy ornaments,” she said. Think: “Hocus Pocus,” “Practical Magic,” and of course,“Wicked.”
Other markets trend more traditional, like the Christkindlmarket in Denver, celebrating its 25th anniversary, and WinterFest at Chautauqua Park in Boulder, with its carriage rides and cookie decorating.
The town of Creede is creating its own winter customs with a townwide Chocolate Festival, while places like the Art Gym in Denver offer visitors a hands-on screen printing experience between browsing works from member artists.
Each market has something special to offer. So whether you’re in it for handmade gifts or just want to sip a festive drink under some twinkly lights, we’ve compiled more than 50 holiday markets for you to check out now through the new year.
